Why are there charges appearing on my card?

The charges that were deducted from your card are known as the Inactive Balance Charge. Before the 1st May 2011 our cards used to expire after 12 months but in line with new legislation gift cards no longer go out of date. Instead, after 12 months if a balance remains on a card an inactive balance charge of €1.45 is applied to the card starting on the anniversary of the issue date of the card. The charge will be taken on the same date every month until the card is spent in full.

One4all Gift Cards purchased from 1st November 2022 can now be spent free of charges for 18 months. After this time, a monthly charge of €1.45 will be deducted from funds remaining on the card, until the card balance reaches zero.

Please note, One4all Gift Cards purchased prior to 1st November 2022 are still subject to a monthly deduction of €1.45 per month after 12 months.

This charge is part of our terms and conditions, and we do try to make every effort to draw attention to this by highlighting it in our T&Cs both online and in our paper 'Where to shop' directories. These are available at Post Offices when purchasing gift cards and are sent alongside any card that is bought online. We have also placed a notice highlighting on the back of our gift cards since May 2014.

The 'Valid Thru' on the front of your card relates to longevity of the plastic of the card and is for use when purchasing online. This is not an expiry date.
